Tired of coding? Want to switch roles but still keep up with the engineering domain? Do you like to write documentation? Or want to shape how colleagues, engineers, early adopters, and partners join our platform? Then the Knowledge Engineer position awaits you in IO Global’s Atala team.

IOG, creator of the Cardano blockchain platform, is developing products for digital identities and verifiable credentials as part of the Atala suite. We are building a platform that can be tailored to the needs of clients in many business sectors. We need software professionals with personality, technical foundations and experience to join a fast-paced team. You will help us design, implement and deliver.

In the Atala team, we start from product requirements and design, and implement a solution that we own end-to-end. We do protocols, services, applications, and even create infrastructure and deployment plans, fully automating everything in the process. We have built an architecture on top of Cardano, IOG’s flagship blockchain, but our core architecture is also blockchain-agnostic.

We use Scala for the backend, and Kotlin to define a software development kit for JVM, Android, iOS, and web platforms. We build applications for the web, Android and iOS. Our infrastructure is currently defined in Terraform and runs in AWS and we are experimenting with Nomad and Kubernetes for orchestrating our services. We have an automated test suite and we are applying continuous integration (CI) practices.

Your mission

As a Knowledge Engineer, you will be in charge of organizing, aggregating, and creating the team’s internal knowledge. This includes helping other engineers to document their work, and managing material to ensure that it is accessible and useful. Also, you will be responsible for creating training materials (coding exercises and courses) and training other teams and departments in the company (engineering, research, education, professional services, technical support, etc) about our systems. By extension, your feedback to the team will be essential to improve our stack, and expand our developer ecosystem. You’ll also become an expert in the subject.

Duties will include:

Creating, contributing to, and maintaining sources of knowledge within IOG, such as wikis, Confluence pages, bibliographies, and code documentation
Developing training materials (coding exercises, tutorials, courses)
Helping colleagues find information
Working with our technical writers to ensure that documentation is correct and clear
Assisting development teams in setting up documentation systems for their projects, and supporting tools such as machine-checking for examples in documentation
Teaching and training other people within IOG to help disseminate knowledge
Contributing to development work on the project.

Requirements

Your expertise

Knowledge of the layers of blockchain technology (desirable)
Knowledge of the notions of decentralized identity and verifiable credentials (desirable)
Technical background, having worked as a hands-on developer (with at least one of the technologies we use in Atala)
Capable of understanding code and following algorithms
Experience as a technical writer, or of having written public technical materials (desirable)
Experience of working with stakeholders on software products. Experience of managing expectations will be considered a plus.
